It is important that you take good care of your jewellery to ensure it will last you a lifetime. Some of our pieces are like little paintings and need to be handled with care.
The earrings that I have purposely oxidised are meant to be kept dry. Water may fade the colours. Do not apply perfume, or lotions whilst jewellery is on. Chemicals can damage the patinas, leaving them lackluster and muted, or apply a film over the metal, leaving it looking dull.
My earring are made of brass. I love brass it’s great for people who love gold but don’t want to spend a fortune on their jewellery pieces. However brass does darken over time but I find fine sandpaper works a treat if you want your pieces to shine again. It’s as simple as that. But just be sure not to use the sandpaper on the areas that are intentionally oxidised.
All of my brass pendants a made from melted down brass offcuts of the earrings I make. They are solid brass so will remain gold forever. However just like my earrings they can darken over time. I always give a complimentary polishing cloth with every pendant purchase which works great but if you would really love your pendant to sparkle again then follow the below steps –
Cleaning your brass is easy!
-
Squeeze the juice of a lemon into a dish and place all your brass jewellery into the dish.
-
Allow it to soak for approximately 5 minutes.
-
Then give it a gentle scrub with an old toothbrush or something similar (do not use anything too abrasive as you’ll scratch the metal)
-
Rinse under fresh water
-
Polish with your polishing cloth.
You’ll be amazed at how shiny and new your brass jewellery looks after this process.
I hope you enjoy your new jewels, with proper care, they can last forever! xxx
